Description:
The Tax Analyst (Sales and Use Tax) is the finance professional responsible for
the preparation and completion of sales and use tax returns. This involves the
preparation of tax work papers and preparation of sales and use tax returns
using tax software. Additional responsibilities include reconciliations for
general ledger sales and use tax accounts, involvement in tax audits and
various research projects.
This position reports to the State & Local Tax Supervisor. Experience &
Qualifications Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• CPA / CMI preferred
• A minimum of 5+ years of professional sales and use tax experience
• Oil & gas industry experience
• Proven knowledge of sales and use tax compliance
• Experience with SAP and Microsoft Office
• Proven attention to detail and ability to stay focused and meet
deadlines
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or in a team
• Strong problem solving, analytical and communication skills
• Ability to interface with all departments, willingness to make
suggestions for system improvement and efficiency
• Proven ability to research complex tax technical issues and present
findings
• Superior interpersonal skills to handle various customer and
stakeholder groups
Accountabilities:
Sales and Use Tax Compliance and Oversight
• Prepare and complete monthly submission of all sales and use tax
returns
• Review assigned general ledger accounts and reconciliations on a
monthly basis, ensuring accurate coding of all sales and use tax areas
• Accumulate, analyze and process financial accounting data in order to
prepare sales and use tax returns
• Ensure timely payment of all sales and use taxes payments
• Communicate with customers and vendors in conjunction with their tax
status and exemption certificate updates
• Facilitate the embedding of standard finance processes/systems as they
relate to sales and use tax
• Assist with ad hoc query resolution regarding sales and use tax as
appropriate
• Assist with gathering data and preparing documentation for sales and
use tax audits
• Proactively assist other BU's with planning and budgeting for sales and
use tax implications
• Assist with process improvement and internal control implementation
• Assist with sales and use tax system integration, design, and
maintenance
• Involvement in special projects
• Assist other State tax functions as needed
• Perform other duties as directed by Tax Compliance supervisor
